In an average year, 42,540 Illinoisans, about half of which are women, will die of cardiovascular diseases. Thousands more now live with disabilities from these diseases. From the investment of about $6.7 million in research grants to researchers at the University of Illinois’ Urbana campus since the inception of the Heart Ball in 2001.
